The Taliban is a Sunni Muslim movement that controlled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. The Taliban was founded by Mullah Mohammed Omar and has been in hiding since the destabilization of the Taliban in 2001. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan slowly during the Afghan Civil War by saying they would put an end to the Mujahideen and other groups controlled by warlords. The Taliban was disbanded in 2001 due to the invasion by American troops, although some did stay to deal with American insurgents as well as the civil war that started due the to Taliban’s fall.

    Islam:
Close to 23% of all people who live on earth follow Islam. Islam is a strict monotheistic religion, believing that Allah is one and indivisible. In the holy book, God’s word and final revelation was given to Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel and was passed on orally and eventually written in the Qur’an. Islamic people believe that Muhammad was the last prophet of God. Islam is the second largest religion, and is the fastest growing religion to this day.
